DPDO operates each program with an emphasis on long-term sustainability. Integral to program design is a component to train beneficiaries with the technical and managerial skills necessary to continue activities with lasing value for the community.
DPDO is focusing on the implementation of low-cost technologies for reconstruction of schools.
Stabilized Soil Blocks (SSB) are produced from a mixture of soil and cement formed into large bricks in a hand-operated or hydraulic press. The brick are cured rather than fired. The press machine is available from the Institute for Technological Research in Khartoum. Models for field training and building/site designs are being developed by a specialist, Eldooma Adam, on DPDO's Executive Committee in Khartoum.
