Highlights from the 2007 Annual Report
Despite the intractable crisis, students at Darfur Schools of Peace continued their education and excelled in their studies. Seven elementary schools were brought into operation with DPDOs support. By the end of 2007, 118 paid teachers at twelve School of Peace were educating over 6,000 children.
DPDO also began an initiative to build a high school that would serve youth displaced or orphaned in the conflict.
The Solar Cooker program expanded during three weeks of training sessions in May. Forty participants learned to make the cookers from local materials and to use this simple technology instead of firewood to cook family meals.
The Women's Center in Kassab camp successfully launched an income generation cooperative for IDP women.The first shipment of traditional hand woven baskets arrived in the US in December and immediately sold out.
DPDO staff engaged in over thirty advocacy events during 2007 for a variety of civic, faith based and school groups. DPDOs work was also the subject of numerous print articles and radio and TV interviews.
A year of Financial and Organizational Growth
DPDOs revenues in 2007 increased 228% over 2006 to $573,965.00.
89.9% of donations received directly supported program operation.
The organization relocated its headquarters to Washington, DC, added part-time staff, and introduced new systems for financial and information management.
